Use the above suggestions only as a guideline. Monofilament line is the only way to go. Stay away from high-visibility, florescent colored line, choose clear or blue. Use only clear line on 10 days and longer trips as you will be fishing at night and colored line becomes invisible to the human eye at night.  Hollow Spectra line can be used as a backing on the larger reels, ex. 500 yds. of Spectra, 200 yds. of Monofilament on a 50 SW.

A lot of fishermen hesitate to go long range fishing because of the lack of tackle and the initial cost of purchase. We have rental tackle available at very reasonable prices. Rental prices include rod, reel and first spool of line. This is the most reasonable way to make a trip without the big investment...think about it! All terminal tackle and line is available aboard at tackle store prices. Please consult with office or crew before spending a lot of money.

We realize some people feel they will need more tackle than suggested, this is fine, but keep in mind some fishermen take less tackle and do very well. The best suggestion we can make is to stop at a good tackle shop before your trip.

Here are a few tackle shops for the latest information of what items will help make your trip a success.
