September 2005

Sept. 1st, 2005
Good morning folks.

Yesterday was great yellowtail fishing. Steady action all day . Fish biting the surface iron Yo-Yo jig and sardine. Great weather and a good time for all. The fish were a little smaller than Cedros fish so there were a lot of released fish . But enough good size yellows to keep it challenging.
Biggest yellow of the day was 39 pounds . A nice trophy. The rest of the catch from 12 to 20 pound fish with a few nicer ones mixed in.
Today we are finishing our trip offshore in hopes of a few Dorado to finish things off

Sept.  4th, 2005

Good evening folks, we departed San Diego on Friday on a three day with a very good load of bait and the weather was nice.  Our satellite phone was down for one day but we are back on track.  We started offshore looking for Yellowfin and Dorado on kelps the first day and we were not very successful but we still put together a day out of it, the majority of that fish was twenty to twenty-five pounds and a few twelve to fifteen pounders and the weather was good, fishing was slow but everyone had a good time so at the end of that day we decided to leave and try for some bigger Yellowfin tuna and some Yellowtail at Guadalupe Island.  We arrived at the north end at 0430 hrs.  We got the anchor down at day light and did not move again we picked all morning on the kites and on the balloons and the flyline, later in the afternoon it slowed down but the kites stayed pretty busy we didn't get any Yellowtail but we had decent fishing on forty to fifty pound tuna with seven or more sixty to eighty pounders and a hand full of twenty to thirty pound tuna we did loose a few to the sharks but all in all we had a good day of fishing on the anchor with good weather.  Everyone had a chance to get a big fish and that's what we were aiming to do.  We will arrived in San Diego this morning at 0900 hrs.  Julio and RRIII crew

Sept. 8th 2005

Good morning folks.
We left yesterday on a 3 day trip. The Offshore scene did not sound good . With poor weather and little sign of fish we decided to try our hand at Guadalupe.
We still have a bit to go before we arrive. Hopefully we can get some chances at trophy fish. What to do tomorrow is another story.
Unless the weather lays down we may stay here. We will report then.

Sept. 10th 2005

Good morning folks.
The quality was at the Island  just not enough quantity for a 3 day trip.
First day we stayed busy with tuna  and yellowtail all day. finishing the day with 25 tuna and 37 yellowtail. chances at trophy fish were available. As I was afraid of the second morning did not pay off with just 5 tuna and a couple of yellows. We left at 1200 and had choppy weather on the way home. It was decent enough to enjoy dinner and a pleasant evening.
Today we leave on a 4day trip. Yellowtail fishing may be in order for the first day.

Sept. 11th 2005

Good evening folks. We spent the afternoon fishing yellows. A couple of short stops on school size tuna early on and then finished the day with good yellowtail fishing.
The group had there fill of yellows so we decided to head out to Guadalupe and try for trophies. The weather is nice and we will be fishing first thing in the morning.

Sept. 12th 2005

Good morning folks. Yesterday turned out to be a great day of fishing at the Island. The morning brought a mix of tuna and yellowtail. Fish from 25 to 75 pounds with very little problems from the sharks. Action on the kites , balloons and fly line sardine. the afternoon produced trophy size yellowtail up until dark. Nice steady fishing almost all day. And nice grade of fish as well. Ending the day with 31 tuna and 55 yellowtail. We decided to head up and finish the 4day trip offshore in hopes of school size yellowfin and Dorado.
The weather is nice and looks to be good for fishing today.
We will report again tomorrow.

The Red Rooster III departed Wednesday September 14, 2005 on the Izorline 5 day sponsored trip departed at noon. We would like to apologize for the lack of daily reports due to the sat phone problems aboard the vessel.

This is a recap of this very successful fishing adventure. After clearing the point at 1300 hrs we headed south toward our first fishing destination. We are arriving Thursday morning 11.30 the yellowtail fishing was very steady all afternoon on 12-20 lb yellowtail. By 1700 hrs we had plenty of great action and more then enough fish aboard.  We continued heading south trying to complement our catch of yellowtail already aboard.

Friday morning we arrived at one of the most famous tuna & wahoo fishing grounds on the Baja coast.  This area would certainly not disappoint our group of anglers. From the time we arrived we had a very good action on 20-100 lb on tuna and the very popular wahoo. We had fair action on the kites through out the day but very good action on 50-60 lb test with a flylined sardine.

The wahoo we landed our first day came on sardines, wire leader rigs, casting bombs and jigs. At times we would have good wahoo action with lots of bites and the normal hook to land ratio being 50/50 at the best. Saturday being our second and final day proved to be outstanding, fishing on 70-130 lb tuna and spectacular action on the kites for three solid hrs.  Wahoo fishing was again good this day with as many as 4 to 5 hooked at one time with lots of casualties and the fish winning many of those battles.  At noon on Sat it was time to pull anchor and start our journey back to San Diego with lots of tales of ones first wahoo or first big tuna. A trip these passengers won’t forget any time soon.

The crew of the RRIII would like to thank Steve Ichinokuchi of Izorline for sponsoring this trip, giving away Izorline, hats and shirts to all the anglers aboard and for making it possible for all these passengers to be a part of this “Trip of a lifetime”!

Sept. 20th, 2005

Good morning folks.

We are on our way to Benitos in hopes of yellowtail action. The first day of a 5 day will put us in position for the next move. The weather is nice and the guys are getting rigged up. Relaxing and enjoying the day. We will report again tomorrow.

Sept. 21st, 2005

Good morning folks. We tried for yellowtail  in the afternoon with not much success. The south swell from the storms below had most of the Island churned up pretty bad. On top of that we saw very little sign of fish.  One drift produced 10 yellowtail and then we left. We are heading south in hopes of action in warmer water. Looking for kelps this morning in hopes of Dorado and Wahoo. We will report again tomorrow.

Sept. 22nd, 2005

Good morning folks.
Yesterday did not work out as hoped. We covered a lot of beach area for yellowtail and came up with very little.  From San Pablo to Cedros for 38 yellowtail. a long stretch of dirty water in between sent us further up the coast. Today is our last attempt at yellows and only conditions and time will tell. We will report again tomorrow .

                                        4 WAHOO

                                        15 GROUPER

Due to the lack of fish locally and the cold waters around Guadalupe and Benitos we didn’t have much of a choice but to make a run down to the 13th spot, which paid off with limits of yellowfin and a few wahoo. On our way back we fished the Southside of Cedros where we picked up the yellowtail and grouper. Even though it was a long run and there weren’t any huge tuna it was a new experience and for many of the guys this was the furthest south they had been.

Sept. 25th, 2005

Good evening folks. Our first day of the West Coast Anglers ten trip was spent traveling. A nice seminar in the morning followed by a day of rigging and relaxing. Couple of movies later and now its time for squid fishing. Tomorrow is our first day of fishing . We will report in the evening on our progress.

Sept. 26th, 2005

Good evening folks. Started off the trip with a sample of decent grade fish. Just a handful of tuna 75 to 100 pounds and 20 wahoo , 15 yellowtail for our efforts. So early in the trip we decided to head offshore in prospects of wahoo and dorado on kelps.
The sign of fish at the rocks did not look that great today, but we will keep tabs on it for another day. A nice easy cruise into the east tonight will put us in an area that looks promising for wahoo and dorado. Right now we are just going day by day with no destination in mind. Hopefully we connect tomorrow for not just this trip but for trips to come. We will report again tomorrow.

Sept. 28th, 2005

Good morning folks. We covered a lot of water yesterday.  Nothing to show for the day even after a number of giant kelp paddies in 76.5 degree water. Not much else to say . It was quite a let down. .
Maybe today we will be rewarded for our efforts below Mag Bay. Hot water down here ,80.1 degrees. We will report again tomorrow.
