Sept. 1st
Today was an exceptional day fishing for Yellowfin tuna and Yellowtail at the
Island. So many times we fish here and scratch at good to great quality tuna
and Yellows, days like today are few and far between. From daylight until noon
we had three to eight fish hooked all the time in flat calm conditions sitting a
few jig casts off the Island with fish blowing out three hundred and sixty
degrees around the boat. The only
place on this coast I can think of that could rival this type of anchor fishing
for this grade Yellowfin tuna and Yellowtail is Alijos Rocks, another world
class fishing area visited by our long range fleet. With the past two days of good to excellent fishing behind us and a
beautiful catch of quality aboard we are headed up to try our luck at some
Albacore fishing. When I mention luck for tomorrow that's just
what I mean, the past three days have been extremely hit and miss for the
longfined species. If you are the lucky boat to stumble across the right few
schools there is a good day to be had. A few schools of those big fatso
Albacore tomorrow will turn a great trip in to an exceptional one, time will
tell. So wish us luck. John and crew
Sept. 2nd
Good morning , yesterday turned out good in the fact that we got lucky and found
four nice schools of biting Albacore. The day was what we had hoped for and
capped off a very nice trip of beautiful quality fish. Our E.T.A. is 0730 and
we will be departing at 1300 hr. for our three day Labor day trip.

Good morning folks, we left San Diego on Monday late afternoon at 1800
hrs. and topped off with some sardines and headed south on a one and a half day
trip. We got to our destination at 0400 hrs. We dedicated the trip towards
looking for kelps offshore holding Yellowfin and Dorado. There was only one
problem it was socked in fog which made it very hard to find kelps. But we got
lucky and managed to find a few with some Yellowfin and good grade Dorado and
there was a few bonus big Albacore. The fog lifted at about 1300 hrs. In a nut
shell that was our trip, fishing kelps offshore. Julio and RR III crew
Sep. 9th
Good evening folks. We started off this morning with steady action on yellowfin.
Most of the fish were 25 to 40 pounds with a few smaller and a few bigger. The
afternoon brought poor conditions and very few bite. At 2:00 things were pretty
dead, ending the day with 50 tuna and only a handful of tails. With the offshore
scene being so poor we are going to stay at the island and hope for another shot
tomorrow. A 3day trip is pretty tough right now but we feel fortunate with what
we've done today and of course hope for better tomorrow. We will report again
then. Andy Cates
Sep. 10th
Good afternoon folks. We left the island at 2:00 after decent action on
yellowtail and yellowfin tuna. Our bonus was the yellowtail bite last nigh . 20
to 35 pound yellowtail throughout the night ending with 36 yellows in the
morning. The day ended with 38 tuna and 20 yellowtail The tuna were 20 to 35
pounds with a
few bigger mixed in . Two outstanding fish this 100 pound class tuna and monster
yellowtail at least 60 pounds caught by Arnie Cohen We will get a better idea of
its size at the dock .. It is hard to tell just how big
it is. But sure to be a Jack Pot winner. We are on a 4 day trip tomorrow . So we
have a little more time to
stretch out and get a chance at some yellowtail action as well as trophy fishing
at the outside island. We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates

Sept. 11th
Good afternoon folks. A big surprise at weigh in this morning. The big
yellowtail ended up 84.9 pounds on the scale. The biggest one the boat has seen.
Arnie Cohen was shocked and very pleased with the results. I put up another
picture of the fish to get a better look at the fish. The yellowfin ended up
bring 113 pounds, second biggest fish at Guadalupe for us this year. Joe Sticles
still holds strong at 121 pounds earlier this season. We are on our way and
looking to start off with some action on our first day of a four day trip
tomorrow. We will report again then, Andy Cates

Sept. 12th
Good evening folks. We started our trip off with a great afternoon fishing
yellowtail. Good bait fishing and good action on the Yo-Yo jig. Finished up the
day with a bite right up until dark. Tomorrow we are headed outside to try our
luck with a few trophy fish. And luck we need. We will report again tomorrow.,

Sept. 13th
Good evening folks. Today was not exactly what we had in mind. The luck we were
hoping for did not show. Plenty of fish around but no bites. We ended up with
yellowtail on most of the spots but it was the tuna we
were after. The show was there just no go. the group decided to give it another
try tomorrow. And now that there are no boats here hopefully our positioning
will be better. We sure could not find it today. We will report again tomorrow.

Sept. 14th
Good afternoon folks. About all I can say is at least we got the Jack Pot
settled. Another slow day at the Island but a few quality fish did come aboard.
Plenty to look at with fish boiling around the boat most of the day until we
left at 100. We picked off 6 tuna and a hand full of yellowtail for our efforts.
There were only about 20 bites for the day and the shark ate a few so it made it
even more frustrating. I posted a couple of pictures of contenders for J.P one
fish over a hundred pounds and another around 85 pounds . Third place will look
to be in the 60's. That's it for our 4day trip and I am very thankful for the
yellowtail fishing we had the first day. Tomorrow we leave on a 5 day and we are
hoping for things to straighten out. We will report again then Andy Cates

Sept. 16th
Good evening folks. Today was definitely hit and miss. With all of driving
around in the morning and salvaging the day in the afternoon. We picked off a
few nice schools in the afternoon to give us 97 albacore for the day.
It could have been better but also could have been worse. The albacore are all
nice size 35 to 50 pounds on the average. We may get a chance at them at the end
of the trip but for now we are on our way to the Island in hopes of some
trophies. We will report again tomorrow Andy Cates
Sept. 17th
Good evening folks. A very frustrating day. Starting at the North end in the
morning and ending up on the south end for the afternoon. Good sign just the
wrong schools. Fish that wouldn't bite was our specialty. We settled in and
scratched until dark only to have the last seven fish eaten by a shark. We ended
with 15 tuna and 10 yellowtail. The only good thing was all the tuna were 60
pounds or better. At the least we got our Jack Pot settled. We are going to try
for yellowtail tomorrow. We will report again then. Andy Cates
Sept. 19th
Good evening folks. Yesterday we had good action on yellowtail that
unfortunately stopped after lunch. We made a tour and found sign just not
biting. We ended up leaving around 3:00 in the afternoon. We pounded our way up
to the albacore grounds only to drive around in some of the worst weather this
year. We finally found a school that bit a little and we drifted until dark with
a nice steady pick. Very nice size albacore. I always wish for more but we were
thankful to be drifting. We leave on a 5 day trip tomorrow. We will report again
then Andy Cates
Sept. 22nd
Good morning folks. Very tough yesterday on the albacore. After the wind the
fish went down
and were reluctant to bite. Still some sign just for the most part they were
down. We went south most of the afternoon and found only small yellowfin and
small yellowtail. Today we are hoping for some yellowtail action to get things
started, We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates
Sept. 22nd
Good evening folks. We spent the day fishing yellowtail. It was a scratch all
day long. We kept at least one fish on with little flurries throughout the day.
The grade was nice 18 to 22 pounds with a few a little bigger mixed in. we ended
the day with our daily limits and are on are way to try for yellowfin and
yellowtail. We will report again tomorrow, Andy Cates
Sept. 23rd
Good evening folks. We hade decent action most of the morning. Things slowed
down in the afternoon but we managed to pick off a few nice fish. Most of the
tuna were 30 to 40 pounds but trophy yellowfin up to 90 pounds were mixed in as
well. Ending the day with 47 tuna and 10 yellowtail. It was a decent scratch and
the guys enjoyed the day of fishing. Tomorrow we are back offshore in hopes of
some big surprises. We will report again tomorrow, Andy Cates
Sept 24th
Good evening folks. Nothing has changed offshore yet. The albacore are still
down and the yellowfin are to small to keep. We were happy to at least have one
fair stop for the day and get another look at the beautiful size albacore that
were scarce today.
Our next trip is a ten day and we are looking forward to venturing off to the
south. We will report then. Andy Cates
Sept. 27th
Good evening folks. We made a stop at Cedros this afternoon and had decent
action on yellowtail. A couple of drifts just to get the guys loosened up. The
fish were smaller than we had liked so there was some releases and enough decent
fish mixed in to make it fun. We are going to keep working our way down in hopes
of something bigger and better. We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates
Sept. 29th
good evening folks. We ended up having a nice day of dorado fishing. Nice size
fish 15 to 30 pound fish . Good action most of the morning and then scattered
strikes on wahoo in the afternoon. We are heading to the outside in hopes of a
few wahoo and a few decent size tuna. The tuna on the inside were small and just
a little wahoo and yacht traffic so we are hoping for more chances outside. We
will report again tomorrow.
Andy Cates
Sept. 30th
Good evening folks. Our wahoo action was better today and some nice size ones at
that. Only a couple of tuna today we spent most of the time trolling. As it
turned out the guys that sat on the anchor had better success with the wahoo so
we will give that a shot tomorrow. The tuna we did catch were nice size and our
positioning tomorrow will be better so we are happy about that We will report
again tomorrow. Andy Cates
