Good morning folks, We finished off with the yellows and dorado on the
ridge and headed offshore after great action on the inside. Just before
dark we found a kelp that had big dorado but no wahoo. With the weather
being up we kept going and spent yesterday at the rocks were we picked up
8 more wahoo and scratched tuna until dark.
With the quest for wahoo still at us we decided try again offshore in
hopes of a kelp that is holding fish. So far we have seen nothing but have
the entire day to look. We will report again tomorrow

This was the annual WestCoastAngler.com trip Sponsored
by David Rosenthal, limited to 26 passengers and being the first ten day
trip down the ridge this is becoming quite a popular trip.
David added to the fun by raffling off 3 seeker rods,
line, jigs, tools and giving each Angler Westcoastangler hats and t-shirts.
The fishing was hot and plentiful and a great start to the long range
season.

Sorry for the lack of reports, we have had a hard time
getting the phone to send out our information to this point. We spent our
first day of fishing trying for yellowtail along the Baja coast, the
fishing was very good on mixed grade fish from 8 to 20 pounds and we did a
lot of catch and release, as we weeded thru the small fish we
did put together a nice day.
Day two and three found us fishing the ridge area for classic fall type
variety fishing on multiple species including tuna, dorado, yellowtail,
pargo, grouper and wahoo. The action was just incredible all three days to
start the trip, we have a good catch of the beach and ridge fish aboard
and everyone had an opportunity to tug and pull until their hearts
content.
With the action on school size fish behind us we are presently fishing
for larger tuna and wahoo at Alijos rocks hoping to compliment the catch
already on board with quality tuna and the highly coveted wahoo, the
action has been fair but the quality is not disappointing as these Alijos
Rocks tuna are in the 60 to 120 pounder class and real crowd
pleasers. With three days of fish left and good weather to work in we are
hoping to finish the trip off putting quality fish aboard and end the trip
on a high note, time will tell what the fishing has to offer and in the
mean time we will keep working hard at catching these beautiful grade tuna
and wahoo and enjoy the fantastic weather.
We will report back in a few days and give an update on how the final
days of fishing have gone. One quick note everyone here on board would
like to say "hello and wish you where here" to Richard Hightower and thank
him for all the wonderful product he provided to everyone on board in the
raffles and giveaway's, it's all getting put to good use. Thanks for
checking in with us and we will report back in a day or two.

We have been here at Alijos Rocks for three
day's and are having good fishing on beautiful grade Yellowfin
Tuna averaging 70 to 125 pounds with a hand full of stand outs we are
hoping to weight in the 130 to 140 pound range back at the dock, the
action is not red hot but we are scratching out a nice quality catch of
tuna. The Wahoo action is basically slow with our first day here proving
to be the best opportunity to hook and land one of the highly sought after
species, but even at that it was not good fishing with the amount of Wahoo
here at the Rocks being minimal at this time. We see good sign of the
larger tuna around the area and feel good about finishing our trip here
trying to compliment our already nice catch with a few more of these
trophy fish. The best techniques for a chance at one of the larger tuna
has been 50 or 60 pound line and a shot piece of fluorocarbon with a 3/0
to 5/0 circle hook using a live sardine or a chunk bait. These fish are
too big to fish 40 pound line, we have had several anglers spooled each
day on 50 and 60 pound line and even one person got spooled on 80 pound
today. It has been typical scratch tuna fishing and changing your live
bait and staying in contact with your bait has been the key to getting
bites, we have also had several opportunities on the kite's each day
flying the live squid and the flying fish. Please wish us luck as we
continue to hunt these trophy tuna and try to finish off our trip with
this quality grade of tuna. We will report back as we make our way towards
San Diego with the final results of our last day and an ETA back at home
on Saturday October 14, 2006.

It was the perfect way to finish the trip with a very good morning of
fishing on the large Yellowfin Tuna at Alijos Rocks, perhaps the best
biting fish we saw in our three and a half day's at Alijos. We had four
people going into our last morning who had not yet successfully landed
one of the larger Yellowfin Tuna and our goal to finish the trip was to
get them their large Tuna so everyone on board had a trophy to show for
their efforts, we not only succeeded in the task at hand but put
together a beautiful catch of the large Yellowfin Tuna on our
last morning of fishing as well. This type of big game fishing is not a
fast process by any means, it truly takes a lot of patience and
perseverance by the passengers and crew over an extended period of time
sitting on the anchor for day's and scratching out a quality catch of
these beautiful fish. Looking back over the past week of fishing we are
pleased with the results of the catch we have put on board, classic fall
Long Range fishing with exceptional action for multiple species in on
the beach and down the ridge with a good opportunity to catch a trophy
Yellowfin Tuna at Alijos Rocks along with a few Wahoo. This trip is the
perfect example of what these fall trips where designed to target a
variety of fish in different areas up and down the very prolific Baja
coast. We are currently traveling up the coast in perfect weather and
expect to make our targeted arrival time back in San Diego of 0830,
anyone who is meeting the boat can give Lee Palm's office a call Friday
afternoon for any updates in our ETA but as of now we are on schedule.
The crew and myself would personally like to thank David Rocchi for
hosting this fine group of passengers on yet another successful Newell
sponsored 10 day fall voyage, we all missed Mr. Richard Hightower this
year and look forward to fishing with Richard again in the near future
but "Rocky" was a great host and truly a pleasure to work with. I would
like to mention the sponsors who provided all the great product for
everyone on board on this annual 10 day trip, of course Newell
Manufacturing for the reels they give away in the raffle's and all the
loaner tackle they provide to anyone on board who would like to fish
with this fine gear. Their was free line from Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Yo-Zuri
H.D. fluorocarbon available along with Seaguar fluorocarbon, the
fluorocarbon proved to be a key element in our catch of the large
Yellowfin Tuna from Alijos Rocks. Other sponsoring companies where
Catchy Tackle who provided Spinner Bombs for Wahoo fishing along with
Sea Strike Jigs and Yo-Zuri Hydro Mag Trolling lures. Hayabusa Hooks,
Hayabusa (Sabiki) bait catchers where also provided and everyone on
board received a Hayabusa hat and Newell T-Shirt. Thank you Newell,
Catchy Tackle, Hayabusa, Seaguar and Yo-Zuri for all this wonderful
product and Richard and Rocky for taking the time to put it all
together, the gear was put to the test this trip and came thru with
flying colors. We hope to see everyone back next year on this annual
Newell 10 day trip and other trips in 2007 aboard the Red Rooster III.

Newell 10 Day Trip Oct. 4 thru Oct. 14.
Oct. 16th, 2006
Good morning folks. We are ready to go for our first trip down to the
Hurricane Bank and to the Islands. We now have access to fish 6 to 12
miles from all the Islands in the Revillagigedos chain. So now there are
more options for the longer trips. The weather has been a little shaky
the last couple of weeks but it looks like we may have a window to make
it to the Bank. We will be keeping a close eye on things as we head
down.
Our first stop will be at Cedros tonight in hopes of mackerel.
We do have a nice load of sardines but from the past the mackerel seem
to help with targeting the bigger fish on this early season trip. So
with that we are going with it and left with a couple of empty boxes for
Spanish or green mackerel
We will report again tomorrow
Oct. 17th, 2006
After what seemed like an endless ride to the bait grounds, we got 2
full deck tanks of nice Spanish and green back mackerel. It took longer
than I had hoped and cost us time on getting to the bank. None the less
we will be there around lunch time day after tomorrow.
Today will be spent rigging up for tuna after a morning seminar. We are
having a little rain but the ride is smooth going with the swell and
breeze. We will report again tomorrow.

Good morning folks. Another day of travel and lunch time tomorrow we
will touch down at the bank.
Spent the day rigging up for tuna with most terminal gear general until
we see what is going on. Easy to make changes after a day of fishing for
what brought the consistent bites. Good weather coming down, cloudy with
some rain but calm seas. We will report again tomorrow

Oct. 19th, 2006
Good evening folks. We arrived a little late but as it turned out not to
late. Getting the anchor down at 2:00 in the afternoon and staying
steady until after dark. At one time we had 15 going and they all seemed
to be good ones . Most of the fish were on the Kite and fly lined
mackerel with a couple on chunk and the balloons.
Getting our last tuna after dinner finished our first day with 25 tuna.
17 of them over 200 pounds. So we will see how it goes tomorrow with
high hopes after what we saw in the afternoon.

Oct. 21st, 2006
Good morning folks. Yesterday was another great day with lots of chances
at big fish. All applications from chunk to the kite. The mackerel have
seen more than half the bites on big ones so far. Finishing the day with
30 tuna 20 estimated over 200 pounds. Good weather has also been a
treat, with a stable platform it is easier to work on the bigger fish.
So far this morning we have 5 tuna , 4 over 200 and pulling on one now.
The best action is after lunch so we have the day ahead of us. We will
report again tomorrow.

Better sign up for November 16 day trip while there are spots this
fishing is going to last for a while.
Oct. 23rd, 2006,
Good morning folks. Over the weekend we continued to have amazing
fishing out here. With lots of chances of big fish. Some days were
better on the kite and big balloons and the last couple of days has
moved over to fishing the sardines. Guys are using the heaviest gear
they have and flylining baits. Very good conditions allowing the baits
to easily get away from the boat.
With just room for a couple more fish here the rest of the trip will be
focused on wahoo. Hopefully there is enough out her to keep us busy the
next couple of days. We will report again tomorrow.

Oct. 25th, 2006
Good morning folks. We left the banks yesterday after trolling for 2
days and scraping off 42 wahoo. Kind of a disappointment as far as the
size goes on the wahoo. Mostly small with just a few decent ones mixed
in. We are traveling today and will be at the rocks tomorrow to troll it
up in hopes of a few more wahoo and then head up looking for kelps.
Our plan for the last day is to fish Cedros in the skiffs for bass and
yellows .We will report again tomorrow.
