Good evening folks. We scratched at the wahoo today and had a couple decent
stops in the afternoon. We sat on the anchor for most of the day and picked at
60 to 100 pound tuna. Biggest fish 1bout 115 pounds. The tuna died in the
afternoon and we spent the rest of the evening trolling and getting short stops.
Last night offered a bite on yellowtail most fish ranging fro 20 to 35 pounds.
it lasted from 9:30 to after midnight. 30 yellows were caught throughout the
night. 35 wahoo and 25 tuna for the day. we really need a big day . hopefully
the tuna bite better tomorrow. Andy Cates
Oct. 2nd
Good evening folks. Another day of wahoo and tuna. Slower on the tuna but better
on the wahoo. The afternoon was dead until right before dark when we had a
little action on tuna. Not much sign of tuna here today but the evening gave us
hopes for tomorrow. Finishing the day with 48 wahoo and a dozen decent size tuna
from 50 to 90 pounds. We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates
Oct. 3rd
Good evening folks. We had a nice day today with steady action throughout the
day on good grade tuna and wahoo. Good fish caught on the kite up to 100 pounds
. Most fish 50 to 75 pounds. 44 tuna that grade and another 30 tuna smaller
grade, 18 to 30 pounds. The wahoo were all nice fish and we ended the day with
38.
Unfortunately we have to leave and start working up, but we are hoping to finish
off with some yellowtail action and maybe a few more wahoo. We will report again
tomorrow. Andy Cates
Oct. 4th
Good evening folks. We spent the day overwhelmed by smaller grade yellowtail. A
lot of different spots holding the same size fish with only a slight amount of
keepers throughout the day. A lot of releasing today to go with action. We will
report again tomorrow. Andy Cates
Oct. 5th
Good evening folks. We finished off this morning with a little yellowtail action
and then broke down are gear. We started home at 830 in the morning and hoping
to get in on time. Right now we are making awful speed and look to be late.
Hopefully that changes and we can make up some time. The first 10 day trip
showed hope for the fall trips to come. With over 150 wahoo for the trip and
quality tuna up to 100 plus pounds to be had the challenge is definitely there.
Hopefully the ridge and lower deep water banks start to show sign of fish soon.
I am sure everyone is waiting for the first reports of big tuna from the lower
areas. With the couple of days we spent on the inside it just seemed like it was
still a little early. With the exception of trophy size dorado and scattered
wahoo the tuna sign didn't seem to be there . But that was only one boat looking
at a lot of area. We get more boats out looking and hopefully soon we will be
reporting about the big tuna like last year. Hopefully it is right around the
corner. We will be leaving on another 10 day trip tomorrow We will report again
later. Andy Cates

Good morning folks, we departed October 6th at 1400 hrs on our annual ten day
Newell trip with twenty-six passengers. We put aboard three hundred and ninety
scoops of excellent sardines and cleared Point Loma
at 1530 hrs heading for points south. After leaving the harbor we gathered
together in the galley for the safety talk and a little bit about the fishing
that we could possibly have in the near feature. Our first day at sea was spent
in the morning giving our tackle seminar consisting of all the fishing
techniques for Yellowtail, Wahoo, Dorado and of course Tuna. After lunch we
stopped along the Baja coast for a very nice afternoon of Yellowtail fishing on
eighteen to twenty-five pound fish. At dark we pulled up our lines, had dinner
and headed to the bait grounds to replenish our supply. We experienced as good
a bait fishing as you could ever want to see, unfortunately we had very little
room to put these Mackerel because it is so early in our trip but we took what
we could. Needless to say that we are pleased with how the trip started and we
look forward to more of the same success for the next week. We will report back
in the days to come with what we encounter in our travels.

Good morning, over the past days we continued our journey down the Baja coast
with good success. Friday was another day of quality Yellowtail as we worked
our way toads the offshore areas. Yesterday we fished offshore with a great day
Wahoo fishing and lots of school size Tuna too. We plan on spending one more
day trying for more of the same before we turn our attention towards the larger
Tuna. We have had great
weather the entire trip and so far the fishing has kept us quite busy, we look
forward to what the next week has to offer. We will report back in the next few
days with what we are hoping will be more good reports.
We are sending some pictures of the last few days catch. John and RR III crew

Good morning folks, well the past few days have been classic fall fishing with a
variety of species and epic quality. Sunday we had a few Grouper and some real
heart breakers on a few big Groupers just at daylight. We had Wahoo action all
morning and a great afternoon of nice size Dorado, classic fall fishing.
Yesterday was an absolute fantastic day of Yellowfin Tuna fishing on forty to
ninety pound fish. They enjoyed biting the fly line sardines as well as the
kite baits, we had excellent action all day long. Our weather at one point
turned bad and we had an extremely bumpy ride for a twelve hour period, but
things have calmed down nicely and we are now enjoying light winds and favorable
sea conditions. The big Tuna are what most people want to try and out battle on
a long range trip, so most likely the remainder of our trip will be spent
targeting these tough fighting adversaries. We already are blessed with a very
nice catch aboard and with three days of fishing left we are looking forward to
completing our catch with this beautiful grade Tuna. We will report back
tomorrow with more results and a few pictures of our lucky anglers.

Good morning folks, very nice fishing today for Wahoo and Tuna. The weather if
you can believe is too good, we had no wind and where unable to fly our kites
for most of the day. Typically we need ten to twelve knots of wind to keep the
baits out on the kite and until 5:00 pm. we could not get a bait out, it hurt
our overall production today unquestionably. We are sending along some pictures
of a variety of species we have caught today to give you a look at the nice
quality we have been enjoying. At this point in our trip we have two day of
fishing remaining, we will report back once we finish fishing and have our bow
pointed homeward bound. John and RR III crew

Good morning folks, this trip finished absolutely perfect with another good day
of Tuna, Wahoo and Dorado fishing on Wednesday. We spent yesterday back up the
Baja coast for what turned out to be as good of
Yellowtail fishing on eighteen to twenty-five pound fish as you will ever see,
what a fantastic finish. This trip is a perfect example of what a ten day trip
is designed to be, quality fishing on a variety species. We were very fortunate
to have had great fishing on all of the targeted species and we fell very
fortunate with our good timing and remarkable results. We are currently
traveling up the coast in perfect weather and plan on arriving back in San Diego
on Saturday morning at 0800 hrs. The crew of the Red Rooster III would like to
thank Richard Hightower and Newell manufacturing for putting together this trip
and all of the great passengers on board. It was our pleasure to have had
everyone with us for this wonderful Baja experience.

Good morning folks. Sorry about the lack of reports. We have been very busy the

first day was for 55 tuna and 18 wahoo and yesterday we had 70 tuna and a few
wahoo. All very nice fish. A handful of fish over 200 pounds each day and
another caught this morning. a lot of fish close to 200 pounds. We did not get a
chance to estimate fish by measurement so we will see at the dock. I will send
pictures later. Andy Cates

Good evening folks. We left at 3:00 in the afternoon after finishing off with 50
wahoo. We ended with a couple more big tuna in the morning. A 230 and another
close to 200. Too close to cut off. Settled our trolling jack pot with a 200
pounder caught on a Marauder. We are on our way up to try and fit in a few more
wahoo and do grouper and bass fishing. The weather is nice and we are hoping it
continues. I will send more pictures of some of the big fish tomorrow morning.

Good afternoon folks. We spent the day scratching at decent size wahoo. We
didn't have much room but then again fishing was slow. We did end up with all we
could hold but it was definitely a scratch. The weather is nice and we are
heading up to fish bass and yellows. Tomorrow we are going to run skiff trips
for bass and hook and release yellows from the big boat . Hopefully the weather
stays nice and we can stay busy. We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates
Oct. 30th
Good morning folks. The last 2 days we spent fishing from the skiffs. The first
day it was windy and rainy so we fished up the Lee of the island. The weather
was better but the fishing was slow. We finally got into
some good action in the afternoon.
Yesterday was good mostly all day with great action on nice size Calicos and a couple of White Sea bass and yellows in the skiff to go with. The big boat saw better action on yellows and the afternoon brought good conditions and 35 pound yellowtail that were released into the evening. All the bass were released during all the skiff trips. The weather is nice after a bumpy night. We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates
