Nov. 1st,
Good afternoon folks,
We departed San Diego yesterday on our annual Charkbait 10-day trip with a very nice load of bait. Today we had a seminar after breakfast and we covered all possible rods we would need for every place we fish. That way it gives everybody a good idea on what to spool up with and what to expect. We are on our way down to the Alijos Rocks. We will arrive tomorrow around lunch time. We will report again tomorrow night with our days catch.

Nov. 5th,
Good evening folks,
We did not start at the rocks like we thought we were instead we started at the Rosa bank. First thing that morning we got on a very big kelp loaded with small fish, it was all four to eight pound on the yellowfin and small yellowtail. We ended up releasing everything we hooked. When we got on the Rosa Bank it was cooler water and we decided to work down to the southeast where there was a good temperature break. There was no shortage of kelps, but none had any life on them like the one we saw in the morning. We kept working to the southeast all day long for very little. The next day we started out at the "big fish grounds" with the Excel. Early in the morning we both got on common dolphin which had forty to sixty pound tuna that would not bite or boil on anything we threw over. We kept getting on them hoping to get some but we ended up with the same results. We worked down towards the Lusitania Bank. On the way down we got on some black porpoise with no fish on them. We ended up coming back up the line a little after lunch. Late in the afternoon we managed to get some action on wahoo, dorado, and striped marlin. The grade on the dorado was twenty-five to thirty-five pounds on average, and the wahoo was on average twenty-five to fifty pounds. The striped marlin were mixed with the wahoo and dorado. Everytime we got a jig strike we'd hook at least fifteen to twenty marlin, the action on the striped marlin was incredible. Today we started offshore again trying for more of the same. We ended up with good action on more wahoo, dorado and marlin. Tomorrow we are going to start on the ridge trying for yellowtail and wahoo. We will report again tomorrow.

Nov. 6th,
Good Evening Folks.
Today on the ridge was slow, but we still managed to get some action on wahoo and yellowtail. The weather is very nice. We currently have less than ten knots of wind and very little seas. Tomorrow we will start on the ridge again trying for yellowtail and wahoo. Hopefully the weather remains the same for the rest of our trip. We will report again tomorrow.

Nov. 7th,
Good Evening Folks,
Our last day on the ridge provided very good action on yellowtail. Just about everybody that wanted yellowtail caught what they wanted today. The graded of the yellowtail was twelve to fourteen pounds with a few fifteen to sixteen pound fish. Tomorrow morning we will be at the south end of Cedros Island trying for trophy yellowtail. We will report again tomorrow night with our final fish count.

Nov. 8th,
Good Evening Folks.
Today at Cedros Island we had really nice weather all day. The wind only came up in the afternoon for about three hours before it dropped off to five knots. The yellowtail fishing wasn't that great for us today but we still managed to get some action on bigger grade yellows. Out of the fish we caught today there were four standouts; the largest will probably go forty-five pounds back at the dock. Tomorrow we will finish our trip at San Martin Island. We will report again tomorrow night.

Nov. 11th,
Good morning folks. We left yesterday on our annual 11 day Accurate reel fly home trip. Today we will be doing seminars and rigging up some of the 50 different Cal Star and Accurate reels. With the help of Jack Del Leo and Dave we should have no problems rigging , but we will see. Tomorrow we will be on the top end of the ridge working down to the warm water off of Mag Bay.

Nov. 13th,
Good evening folks.
We spent our first day down on the lower banks and were very excited to see the sign and the amount of quality that is available. With the action on school size fish and the big fish that have now moved in the next couple of months could be the best yet. Finishing the day with 30 school size fish and 3 fish over 200 pound and another 8 fish from 110 to 190 the chance for a big fish is here. The weather outlook is good and a recipe for success for this type of fishing. The sign of fish looks better than last year and when they really start to bite, look out its going to be good.
We will report again tomorrow.

Nov. 14th,
Good evening folks. A long morning that ended up a 20 mile move to get back on the fish. After a stop on dorado we were fortunate to find good school of biting fish. The tuna ranged from 75 to 185 pounds. With a quick hit on that we are back in the game. An early departure back up to the bait grounds cost us the evening but after we tank up tonight we will be ready for tomorrow.
An Accurate Boss reel was won today with the 187 pounder caught by one of our lucky Anglers. Even though we did not get any real big fish today there were still chances and success by others in our fleet.
We are hoping to wake up in better position for tomorrow and get more chances at the cows.

Nov. 16th,
Good evening folks. After a slow morning we finished off with a biting school of big fish. After yesterday not finding big ones that would bite and losing the big ones we did hook.
We had a great stop for 17 tuna, 5 over 200 and one fish 310 pounds. The fish was caught on an Accurate reel so if it weighs in over 300 at the scales the angler gets an Accurate reel of his choice. He also wins an Accurate 270 XC for his trophy catch of the day. How our luck changed today.
We have one more day and are hoping for another show like today.

Nov. 17th,
Good evening folks. Another day of big fish and today we picked throughout the day. The biggest fish today won an Accurate reel which was @ 298 pounds. Another 14 nice fish were landed for the day and we are headed to Cabo to drop off the fly home guys.
It was choppy down here today but it looks like the weather will get good for the ride home. A successful trip in a big way with cheers for the trophies landed and heartbreaks for the ones that got away. That's the way "cow" fishing is.

Nov. 19th,
Good morning folks. After leaving Cabo and heading up we are looking forward to a nice ride home with good weather. The two boats that were at the big fish grounds yesterday sounded like they had great fishing and we are looking forward to getting back down there on a 16 day trip coming up after Thanksgiving.
I thought I would pass along some of the outfits that seemed to work best on this beach fish. Any 50 size reel with 200 pound hollow spectra. With a top shot of 135 or unlimited. You can also leave the top shot off and we will put it on , on the boat. The hooks for fishing with the mackerel were the 7/0 super mutu ringed, and for the sardine a 5/0 super mutu ringed.
Kite rigs were made up to fly out a sardine or Mackerel. Balloon rigs were a 24 incher simply tied directly to the line and sent out. Don't bother with less than 135 lb. It is not worth the chance of losing a cow.
We hope to see you on the next trip with possibly 11 days on the big fish grounds that gives a lot of chances for that 300 pounder you have all been dreaming of.
Give us a call in the office it leaves the day after Thanksgiving.

Nov. 24th,
Good morning folks. We are on our way down and right now headed to the big fish grounds off Mag Bay. With the chance of a 300 pound plus fish the group showed more interest there than that of the Bank.
Time will tell if that is right but the potential is there. We had a great raffle and seminar this morning with items from Rod and Reel Radio, the sponsor of the trip. Thanks Bill. It went over well. We have three nice Seeker and Calstar rods for daily Jackpots throughout the trip.
Tomorrow is another day of travel and then we will be at the grounds for 10 days. We will really have to watch our sardines and stretch them out for the duration. We will report again tomorrow

Nov. 27th,
Good morning folks. We started off our trip good. With a couple of drifts with nice fish in the 200 pound class. Nice weather with one fish right at 200 pounds another 206, 209, 4 fish in the 220 pound class and a 233. Another 12 fish from 150 pounds to 195 pounds.
Today we are struggling this morning sitting on fish right now that will not bite. There has been some fish caught this morning and we are hoping we are next.

Nov. 28th,
Good morning folks. We found a nice bunch of fish that finally stuck with us after lunch. It was a long morning but the afternoon made up for it. 17 fish for the day almost all in the afternoon drift. Three fish 270 to 273, one fish at 287 and four others from 206 to 220 the remainder were 150 to 195 pounders.
Finding the right bunch that stays with you is tough and frustrating. We have strung together a couple of great days and we hope it continues.

Nov. 29th,
Good evening folks, Today was slow as yesterday on the big fish. A lot of driving around and stopping on non biting fish. There is still good sign of smaller grade fish being 30 to 90 pounds but we focused our efforts on the trophy fish and came up pretty lean. With this storm rolling through and rain hopefully after the storm things get back to normal and we get some chances on the big fish.
