March 2006

Mar. 13th, 2006

Good afternoon. We caught mackerel last night and are on our way to the bank. Weather has been nice hoping for some squid tonight for bait and our sardines are looking good. Jim Loftus and Larry Martin have had great raffles and giveaways. We will be at the bank day after tomorrow

Mar. 14th, 2006

Good morning folks. We had some good wahoo fishing here yesterday but no sign of good size tuna yet. We did see a school of 50 to 80 pound fish and caught nothing although it never did  really get on us just a few boils here. There no tuna last night but more wahoo this morning we are going to stay anchored today in hopes of gathering good size tuna so far nothing.

Good morning folks, yesterday showed more wahoo and very little tuna. The tuna we do see look to be 60 to 100pound fish, we have yet to see any trophies. The evening brought the best sign of tuna with nothing through out the night So far this morning we are picking at the wahoo on the anchor and just 3 60 to 80 pound tuna. With the full moon going down we are hoping for some kind of change. We will report again tomorrow.

Mar. 16, 2006

Good morning folks, Yesterday showed better sign with a 246 and a 209 caught in the afternoon and evening two bigger fish were caught by Larry martin and Jin Chang. A couple other nice fish caught as well Joe Chow has his personal best being 193. The day ended with 10 tuna and 22 wahoo.
This morning was better sign of tuna even yet. Larry Martin with another nice one a 226 and a couple other fish in the high 100 pound class as well. The morning brought a eleven fish hit and now we are starting to scratch at the wahoo again. Hopefully we get a few more chances at big fish today.

Mar. 17, 2006

Good morning folks, We never got an evening shot yesterday but continued to scratch wahoo through out the day. Picking off an occasional tuna through out the day, we finished with 15 tuna and 25 wahoo. So far this morning we have not had any shots at bigger size fish. A short time before daylight we picked up 9 tuna from 70 to 90 pounds. We see pretty good sign of fish here this morning and we are just now starting to pick at the wahoo. We are hoping for some kind of scratch on the tuna through out the day.

Mar. 18, 2006

Good afternoon, Yesterday ended with 14 tuna and 18wahoo. Biggest tuna 170 pounds, most of the other fish were 70 to 90 pounds with a few in the 100 plus pound range. The conditions are the same here today, still see plenty of wahoo and a nice school of tuna.
The tuna bite never happened this morning, 3 tuna 70 to 100 pounds and one other fish that broke off that looked to be in the mid-hundreds We have picked more wahoo this morning and thank god for them. We will report again tomorrow.

Mar. 19, 2006

Good morning folks, the tuna fishing dropped off yesterday, we finished the day with only 5 tuna and 19 wahoo. We had a nice big fish on all evening that finally broke at the fluorocarbon after a long battle. For the day it seemed par for the poor conditions and lack of biting fish .A lot of wind and rain made for tough anchoring and a frustrating day. So far this morning only one tuna 187 pounds and a few wahoo. We still have wind and rain so for now we sit and wait. Hopefully things pick up the next couple of days.

Mar. 20. 2006

Good morning folks, things look to be slowing down by the day. We never had a bite of any kind although throughout the day we scratched 13 wahoo and 5 tuna from 130 to 187 pounds. After 2:00 in the afternoon we caught nothing and saw nothing The place just seems to go completely dead. So far this morning we have 13 wahoo and no tuna. No sign of the bigger fish here today, maybe later. We are leaving here tomorrow and hoping this weather improves. Still raining and windy here. We will report again tomorrow.

Mar. 21, 2006

Good morning folks, Yesterday went as scheduled with the wahoo but very little showing of tuna 22 wahoo and only one 75 pound tuna for the day. Same conditions as all the other days just the fish were not on the bank at all. So far this morning we have four tuna Three fish around 80 pounds and one fish 160 pounds. Almost all the bites have been on the kite. We are leaving here this afternoon and hoping the weather is nice for the ride home. We will report again then.

Mar. 22, 2006

Good morning folks, We left the bank yesterday at 0300. Nothing really changed on the fishing. The same scratch on wahoo in the morning with a slight sign of tuna in the morning. The day ended with 14 wahoo and 4 tuna. The biggest fish 160 pounds The last day gave us a total of 56 tuna with 3 over 200 possibly 4 over 200 and limits of wahoo.
Obviously the wahoo fishing was good and not just good one day but for the entire trip. Most of the wahoo good size as well 35to50 pounds with some up to 70 pounds mixed in. With the tuna action slowing down the wahoo as taken up the slack. Nice to see that there are still chances at big fish and the mix of wahoo
action made for great fishing
Not anything like the fall but none the less still good fishing. Our next trip is in May after our annual maintenance and we will keep you updated on additions to the Red Rooster as we continue to upgrade and keep the vessel state of the art.
