March 2003

March 1st
Well the current shifted overnight so we started the day trying for more of those fat wahoo. And by mid morning we had a current shift.  Around noon the current switch back to what we had the day before.  So we anchored up and started fishing the tuna.  The flying fish were very easy to get last night so we had plenty for the kite rotations today.  That was the ticket today. Today all the fish are over 100 lbs. most from 145 to 185 lbs.  Over 2/3 of the fish were hooked on the kite. The guys are getting the urge to go to Clipperton Island but we are going to try one more day here on the Bank.  There is just so much good sign of tuna to drive off just yet. The weather is perfect once again.  Really couldn't ask for anything better.  Wish you guys were out here fishing with us, you're missing most great action.  Jeff and the Crew.

March 2nd
Well the conditions changed today at the Bank.  We had no or every little current. We kept a handful of tuna, from 100 -140 lbs. and also landed a few more wahoo while on the anchor.  Weather is still great but we are going to make the run to Clipperton Island tonight.  So we will be on the move for a couple of days.  And be fishing on Wed. That will leave us four days at the atoll.  Jeff and the crew.

March 3rd
Just traveling to Clipperton, not much to report.  Excellent weather, guys gearing up for your next destination.

March 4th
We should be getting to Clipperton Island at midnight tonight.  Weather is still excellent and the guys are chomping at the bit.

March 5th
To start off with the weather is great.  No too hot and just enough breeze to keep you comfortable.  We didn't see any concentration of tuna, just scattered schools.  For the day we landed 6 tuna from 100-140 lbs. and kept a few in the 80 lb. class and released several small ones.  Also of note we landed 2 wahoo. We have a three more days here and things can chance overnight. As it stands we will be looking for trophies the last days here, so wish us luck.  Jeff and the Crew

March 6th
What a difference a day makes.  Not much to report on the "night bite", but once the sun came up so did the fish.  A much better sign of fish around today.  Its great to see 100 lb. plus fish boiling around. We released many 70 lb. plus fish, and tagged a couple of dozen fish in the 100-160 lb. class.  We had several jig strikes on the tuna, as well as making long drifts.  The sardines are the food of choice for the tuna.  We did lose a cow today.  After a two hour fight on heavy gear the hook straighten out.  That fish would have been easily 200 lbs. The weather turned wet today.  But it is actually nice.  It keep everyone fishing comfortable.  Sea Ya Jeff and the crew.

March 7th
Today was a kick back day to go exploring. We checked out prospects around the atoll today. We only fished hard for two hours and still managed 8 fish over 100 lbs. and release another 20 smaller fish. Once again it rained most of the day. We will be trying for one big cow as that is all we have room for.  We will start to break down gear Saturday and start to head up the line. Sorry that we have not been able to send any photos but as soon as we get back to San Diego we will put them up.  Jeff and the crew.

March 8th
Today was another day of exploring different areas around Clipperton Island. Then in the afternoon we gave it one more try for a "cow" or trophy yellowfin tuna.  After releasing several fish in the 70-80 range, Carl Newton hooked with a cow.  We taped it out on the boat and the weight came to 215 lbs.  The only other fish we kept was @ 110 lbs.  We are on our way to Cabo San Lucas and should be there Wednesday morning. Everyone is flying home and will meet the boat back in San Diego on Saturday the 15th.  What a great group of guys we have had fishing with us this trip.  They are having the time of their life, with excellent weather, wonderful fishing and gourmet food.  Just couldn't ask for any more. Sea Ya Jeff and the crew.

March 11th
Just a little update on arrival to Cabo San Lucas.  We departed Clipperton Island Saturday evening and took our time but with the perfect weather we are ahead of schedule.  We will reach Cabo tonight and leave first thing in the morning.

March 15th
