Hopefully this is just the beginning of the albacore. My suggestion, catch them while you can. Our next avail able trip is June 13th for 4 days we have a few spots left on it. Hope to see you.

In addition to the nice catch of yellowtail the kids also enjoyed and participated in the catch and release of many other fish such as bonitos, bass, and rockfish.” Teach them when they’re young…..” so they say.

Good afternoon folks, We finished off the trip with spectacular Calico bass fishing on the beach. Average fish was 4 to7 pounds with trophies up in the 10 pound range.
Not something we are used to but for what's going on right now it was great. We are leaving today on a 4 day trip looks like another run for yellowtail. With the weather up and the fish down it looks like the best shot.

Good evening folks, we cleared the point at 1430 hrs. with a nice load of Sardines.  The weather is up and is expected to stay up for a few more days.  The plan for us tomorrow is to start at San Martin Island to stay out of the weather and it's a place nobody has been to in a while.  If we don't see anything worth staying for we will keep working south off shore in hopes for some tuna and Yellowtail.  We will report again tomorrow.

June 15th, 2006

Good evening folks, we don't have much to report we started at San Martin Island, well I should say we drove by it.  The water was cold and off color it was fifty-nine degree water and brown.  We started to go west from there and quickly turned it back south, the weather did not change as expected there was eighteen to twenty knots of wind and a good chop to go with it and an occasional eight foot swell so we kept working south in hopes of off shore action.  We drove though a lot of off color water as soon as we got in good water we saw a couple of small spots of Bluefin Tuna close together,  we stopped  on one of those spots and caught nothing a few fish came under the boat but we didn't hook any it looked like fifteen to eighteen pound fish.

We kept working south pointed towards San Benito's Island.  We didn't see anything for the rest of the morning we arrived at the Island at 1530 hrs. and didn't see very much sign of Yellowtail we did catch ten eighteen to twenty-five pound Yellowtail and they were really hard to land because we had twelve to fifteen big seals on us at all times.  We are headed to the south end of Cedros Island to anchor up for the night.  We will report again tomorrow.

Good morning folks. The Offshore scene took a turn for the better. Yesterday Bluefin and yellowfin provided action all through the day, Bluefin averaging 25 to 40 pounds and yellowfin 12 to 18 pounds. Finishing our day after a long drift and other short stops with 80 Bluefin ands 17 yellowfin. A nice start for a 5 day trip

Today we are at Guadalupe hoping for a few Jack Pot fish

Good morning folks. Well , Yesterday was the typical , "should have been here yesterday story". We got to the Island early to give it a full day. Which turned out to be a lot of looking at fish that would not bite. Frustrated at 4 in the afternoon and luckily catching 8 tuna and 1 yellowtail we decided to head in and try for Yellows. The action sounded good in there so hopefully we don't have the same scenario. We did manage to land our Jackpot tuna at Guadalupe , so that part worked out We will report again tomorrow. Andy Cates

June 21st, 2006

Good morning folks, Yesterday we had a great day of yellowtail fishing Steady action from 10 in the morning until the evening. 14 to 18 pound fish with a few bigger made for great action on the surface iron, sardine and Yo -Yo jig. We finished up in the evening and headed up in hopes of a few more Bluefin and yellowfin. We will report again tomorrow, Andy Cates

We departed on the Billy Casper and Seeker rod eight-day Thursday afternoon and headed down the coast in excellent weather.  The prospects for a late June eight-day sound good.  We fished our first day south of San Diego finding numerous spots of twenty to forty pound tuna, how ever they were uncooperative.  We got the trip started with forty bluefin and three yellowfin for our efforts.  We are presently traveling south with hopes for a good day of yellowtail down the baja coast.  With a nice load of bait and a great group of passengers and lots of time our hopes are high.  We will report back tomorrow with our days results.

Absolutely fantastic yellowtail fishing on incredible grade fish.  Today was just what the doctor ordered to get our trip off and running.  From 0700 until 1700 the yellowtail action never slowed.  All the action was surface fishing, they just do not bite the surface iron any better.  Spectacular visuals on 18-35 lb yellowtail chasing down and inhaling the surface jigs all day long.  Everyone on board had a wonderful time and are now relaxing and looking forward to our next destination down the Baja coast.  Please check back tomorrow and we will report in on our days catch. John & the Crew

June 26th, 2006

We have spent the last two days in flat calm weather here at Alijos Rocks, fishing has been on the scratchy side for Yellowfin Tuna but we are managing to catch thirty fish a day, 35 to 100 pounds.  The sign of fish is fair with a good show around the boat for most of the day, it takes a good bait and hard work to get a bite but the rewards have been worth the effort.  Our night time action on 20-40 pound Yellowtail on big gear and big baits has been exceptional.  All and all it's been a productive time thus far and we plan to stay at least one more day in hopes of hitting a good day of biting Yellowfin tuna.  We will report back with another day's report tomorrow night. Thanks for checking in on us here on the Red Rooster III.

June 27th, 2006

The weather continues to be flat calm and we are very much enjoying that aspect of this trip.  We had our best day so far out here at Alijos Rocks on 40-100 pound tuna with a very impressive 140 pound tuna being caught today by Miles Redman, congratulations.  Yellowtail fishing last night was not quite what we had our first night here but we did boat 27 nice Alijos Yellowtail and two Cubera Snapper for our efforts.  With the sign of tuna being what it is and the outstanding quality we are going to finish our trip right here hoping for another great day before heading home.  We will report tomorrow with our final fishing report of our trip.

June 29th, 2006

It is Thursday morning 0600 hrs and we are enjoying another fantastic flat calm morning traveling back up the Baja coast.  We departed Alijos Rocks at 1300 hrs yesterday after a fair morning of quality yellowfin tuna fishing, a very nice finish to what turned out to be a great trip.  We would like to thank Billy Casper jr., Joe Pfister and Seeker Rods for organizing this trip and assembling such a wonderful group of passengers.  We would also like to thank Mustad, Avet Reels, Softsteel line (Burn's Saltwater outfitters) and Pelagic Gear for all the great giveaways, along with the Seeker rods and Avet Reels, there was something for everyone on board.
My goal on any long range trip is at some point to show our passengers truly exceptional fishing or a common term used would be "wide open fishing."  This trip we absolutely accomplished that goal our second day of fishing at the Island where we experienced not only wide open fishing but beautiful quality for an extended period of time when the Yellowtail action was nothing short of world class.  As most veteran long rangers know fishing is not always wide open and a big part of the catches that are made come from persistence and hard work in scratch type fishing conditions.  We experienced this type of action as well during our stay at Alijos Rocks but by working hard at making a quality catch and after fishing 24 hrs a day at the Rocks, this group of passengers can sit back and enjoy the ride and feel good about a great catch of quality Yellowfin tuna, Bluefin tuna and Yellowtail for their efforts.  During our stay at Alijos we had a number of opportunities at the highly coveted Wahoo, however our hook to land ratio was 0-9 and we left that species to be caught another day.

We are all very pleased with the outcome of our trip and are very thankful for the 8 days of wonderful weather, the Red Rooster III and her passengers will be arriving Friday morning at Lee Palm Sportfishers at 0800 hrs after another very successful voyage.  Thank you for following our reports this trip.

We tried to fish a little at Benitos Island but didn’t last long as we were in fierce competition with the sea lion. Who were less then happy about sharing their prized and soon to be meal, of yellows.  The weather throughout the trip was very pleasant, which is always a plus.
