July 1
Good evening folks. After traveling up from Cedros we got on a spot of breaking Bluefin. They did not bite very well but we did manage to hook and land three fish. Beth Smith landed this big 262 pound Bluefin. John Vanderventer a 181 and Sam Cornell with a 203 pounder. All the fish were hooked on mackerel unbelievably Sam's 203 was caught on 50 pound Izorline. We are going to stick around and try for the Bluefin tomorrow. Hopefully we get lucky again. Andy Cates

July 2
Good evening folks. We had a fantastic afternoon of albacore fishing. Still that big fish 35 to 45 pounders. We got on a school early afternoon and caught what we needed. Everyone has enough fish so we are going to spend the rest of the trip looking for the Big Bluefin. Not to much seen today in that department but hopefully tomorrow. We will report again tomorrow, Andy Cates

July 3
Good evening folks. We spent the day looking for Bluefin. It was a very long frustrating day. When we would finally find a school they would not bite. Things ended up pretty poor. We had a few yellows on kelps but we did not commit to that until late. There were small schools of Bluefin on the kelps and they also would not bite. No sign of the Giant Bluefin today. Tomorrow we are going up the beach to fish yellows and Halibut.
Hopefully it works out after today's tough go. Andy Cates
July 5
Good morning folks. I am reporting for yesterday. The computer was down. We spent the morning on the beach fishing Halibut. We were hoping for some yellowtail action but the water cooled 2 degrees overnight. The yellows were not to be found. The halibut salvaged our morning. Fish from limit size up to 25 pounds caught on the drift with 19 halibut and 4 yellowtail to show for our efforts. I posted some pictures, take a look. We leave on a five day trip today. Things sound pretty good as far as albacore go. We will report again tomorrow night. Andy Cates

July 6
Good evening folks, We had an epic day of albacore fishing. The same grade 25 to 40 pounds. In the evening we had enough. The guys were exhausted after an afternoon of non stop action. What a great way to start out a five day trip. We will be fishing yellowtail tomorrow. Hopefully it works out, Andy Cates

July 8
Good evening folks. We had another nice day of yellowtail fishing. We ended up at Benitos in the evening for some sundown action. A few stand out fish like this one posted. Tomorrow we are going offshore looking for tuna and albacore. The trip has been a great success we are just hoping for a couple of trophies for the Jack Pot, We will report again tomorrow, Andy Cates

July 9
Good evening folks, We spent the day looking for bluefin and ended up finding a few schools that would not bite. We saw some bigger fish in the chum but no takers on the ones with the hooks. We finished of with some action on albacore and called it a trip. We will report then. Andy Cates

July 12
Good morning folks. The computer was down yesterday so I am reporting on our awful day of fishing. We spent the better part of the day driving. Looking for albacore that won't bite. Needless to say we caught very little for the day. So far this morning we have caught some yellows on kelps but no albacore. Hopefully later. Andy Cates

July 12
Good morning folks. We had another tough day. We managed to stay busy on kelps in the morning. Picking off a few decent yellows. The afternoon brought an encouraging sign. Unfortunately we could not find anything to bite. A couple of the other boats had better samples so we were hopeful. As frustrating as it is we will keep trying and hope they come up for everyone. P.S Happy birthday to Beverly.

July 12
Good evening folks. I wish I could say we finished off with a bang, but that was not the case. Another day of slow fishing. The albacore are there they just don't want to bite. We had a couple of better stops that made it tolerable but that was it. I sure hope things go better for us on the next trip. The one good thing is the fish we did put aboard were all nice grade. We will be leaving on another 4 day trip tomorrow See you then, Andy Cates

July 15
Good evening folks Well things really turned around for the better. Great sunny weather and great albacore fishing. The same big fish we have been getting. 25 to 40 pounders. A little more bluefin seen today and caught and even some school size yellowfin in with the albacore. Tomorrow we are going to focus on Bluefin in the morning and then some more albacore action in the afternoon. We will report again tomorrow

July 16
Good evening folks. We had a nice day today. We drifted on  as school of bluefin until after lunch and then hit a few different spots getting some smaller grade yellowfin and a few dorado and yellowtail on kelps. Later in the afternoon we finished up on the albacore and called it a day. I posted pictures of some of the bigger bluefin up to about 60 pounds

Good morning folks, today we departed on our annual five day Newell trip.  We took on a beautiful load of five to eight inch Sardines and cleared Point Loma for points south at 1400 hrs.  Very nice weather and a great group anglers with high hopes so we are on our way to a Baja adventure.  We will report tomorrow with the progress of our trip and hopefully good fishing reports.      John and RR III crew.

July 21
Good morning folks, the last few days I would say were good scratch albacore fishing.  The size of fish is still just excellent with a lot of the catch over 30 pounds and some over 40 pounds, we have had good weather the entire trip with 12 to 15 knots of northwest wind and clear sunny skies.  We plan on fishing for albacore one more day then moving in to the Baja coast and try to compliment our catch with some yellowtail and coastal type species.  We are exactly half way through our 5 day trip and we are hoping to be able to scratch the next two days and put this trip together. This is a very nice group of passengers and they seem to be enjoying themselves very much.  We will report again tomorrow night with our days results. John and RR III Crew

July 22
ETA for Friday morning is 7:00AM

July 24
We departed on Friday for the three day Glenn's Alignment charter.  We took on one well of sardines and cleared Point Loma at 1330 hrs.  The weather traveling down the coast was absolutely perfect, a vast improvement over the twelve to fifteen knots of wind and choppy seas we experienced last trip.  We opted to start this three day run off by catching yellowtail down the Baja coast, and catch we did.  What a very nice day of fishing and a much appreciated change of pace from the offshore fishing we have been doing these past few weeks.  The yellowtail bit from the time we dropped the anchor until the time we pulled the anchor to head back offshore.  All the typical yellowtail type applications were working well.  The most productive outfit was either a flyline sardine or a 3/4 oz. sliding sinker above the hook.  The yo yo jigs and surface irons were very productive as well.  We are now traveling as I said offshore for tomorrows fishing in search of Albacore and Bluefin tuna.  We are hoping that with the good weather and favorable reports we can add a few tuna species to our already very nice catch of fish.  Wish us luck and we will report back tomorrow night with
the trips final outcome.

July 27
Good evening folks. We spent half the day in the albacore grounds. The first part of the morning was encouraging and then at lunch time it seemed to die. We left at 1:00 with 52 nice size albacore and started toward the yellowtail grounds. We hit a couple of spots of better size Bluefin for nothing and kept heading south.
We were hoping for a better show on the albacore but once again they were reluctant to bite. Still plenty of fish around so hopefully on the last day of the trip we will get a better shot. We will be fishing yellows first thing in the morning. We will report again tomorrow, Andy Cates

July 28
Good evening folks. We had a great day of yellowtail fishing. they started to bite at 9:00 in the morning and stayed steady until 5;00 in the evening when we left it. Everyone had a great time. Fish caught on the surface iron, bait and Yo - Yo jig. The grade of fish was nice as well.
Tomorrow we are going to Guadalupe. Due to our positioning I think it is our best bet. The offshore scene below the one day area sounds awful. Hopefully we get lucky tomorrow and get a few trophy yellowfin. We will report then, Andy Cates

July 29
Good afternoon folks. We left at 100 with not much to show for. There was enough sign they just don't want to bite. But then again lately that has been the story with the tuna fishing. Now it sounds like the yellowtail fishing has slowed down as well. We had our chances today with Jack Pot fish and lost them. We did pick up one stand out fish a 60 pound yellowfin and 10 others but smaller grade. We will be in tomorrow at 800 in the morning and then leaving on a 3day trip. We will report again later,  Andy Cates

July 31
Good evening folks. We had a nice day of albacore fishing and action on kelps. Some nice grade yellowtail to go along with the big albacore. We ended the day with 135 albacore and 32 yellowtail. Most of the action was in the morning and very little in the afternoon. We are hoping for another nice day tomorrow. Andy Cates
