January 2005

Jan. 7th, 2005
We are having a nice trip so far, the guys have been spending the days rigging up, getting to know each other and  getting everything ready for Wahoo & Tuna

We stopped at Cedros yesterday and got an excellent batch of Mackerel we also got some nice squid we are heading south and will be to the fishing grounds Saturday morning. The weather has been just beautiful, and calm. (Sorry to hear about all the bad weather you are having back home)

I hope things go this well for the rest of the trip. So far we are off to a good start, everyone is really excited and we have a really good group of anglers aboard.

Jan. 8-10

Good day everyone, Just a few updates. First, sorry that there are no pictures to go along with the reports, we are having our sat phone serviced and are therefore using a temporary replacement on this trip which does not allow us to send any pictures. We will try to post some when we return.

We reached the fishing grounds yesterday and have been having great fishing so far.  Saturday we caught 33 tuna, 4 which tape out over 200lbs.  The average tuna we are catching are around 120-180lbs with a dozen between 180-190. We had another 4 over 200lbs on Sunday and another one today. We also got a  dozen nice size Wahoo both today and yesterday to go along with our tuna catch.

The weather here has been good to us as well, so we count ourselves lucky. Hope you are all doing well back home, we are having a great time out here.  Well try and keep you posted with more updates tomorrow.

Jan. 12th
Very good day for our anglers with 3 or 4 over 200 today.   Lots of 180 -190 lbs fish.  We are just about full and have maybe some room for just one or two cows.   We have been keeping about a dozen to dozen and a half wahoo per day. For the trip it looks like we have 15 fish over 200 lb., and 249 lbs. is the largest one.

Jan. 16th
We are fishing the inner banks.  We are trying to catch the last couple of cows to fill the slammer.

A message to Tony from Don Rummey: "You should have come..."

Jan. 17th
We are on our way home.  We should arrive in San Diego at @ 8 Am on the 19th.  Looking back on this trip I think we have about 16 fish that will top the 200 lb. mark.  We will know more on Wednesday.  Drop by and check out our fish if you have the time.

Jan. 24th
Hi Everyone,

Just so you know this is a verbal report; John Grabowski called into the office, hopefully I won't miss anything.

John say's "We left san Diego Thursday morning, January 19.  We went to Cedros and picked up a nice catch of mackerel, then we headed straight to the fishing grounds. We arrived at the fishing grounds at 7:00 am this morning we have been fishing for about 5 hrs and now have at least 10 Tuna so far over 200 lbs!

A few of the guys already have more than one over 200 lbs,  Susan Michener herself has a 200 lb tuna as well as two others in the 190 lb range.

We have about 32 tuna so far including the 10 over 200 lbs with the average size between 130-190 lbs. The weather is absolutely awesome with 10-15 knot NE winds, the perfect fishing weather. What more can I say other then it has been a great start so far and were looking forward to the rest of it."

January 25, 2005

" Today's fishing was similar to yesterday, with a similar grade of fish. In today's catch we added 5-6 more tuna's over 200lbs which brings our total to 14-16 (there are a couple right on the edge of 200 lbs) Not bad for a second day of fishing.

We have been saving our holding space for the cream of the crop and not taking anything in under 100 lbs other then the 15 wahoo that were just to good to pass up. So our fish holds are still in good shape, waiting to be filled with quality tuna cows.

As for weather, It rained pretty hard last night but everything has cleared up today and weather again is back to normal. Everyone is just loving it."

January 27, 2005

Yesterday (January 26) was a bit slower the first two days, which gave us a little time to rest and catch our breath, we did still catch over a dozen tuna between 120-180 that day.

Today picked up a bit and we added another 25 tuna to the holds with two of those going into the 200lb pot.

Glenn Kerr joined the 200 lb club today by catching a (estimated) 231 lb tuna. The weather is a bit breezy, but not bad. We have four days left of fishing before we head back, so far we are in pretty good shape.

January 28, 2005

Well we are winding down our trip are almost completely full. So far we have between 20-24 tuna over 200 lbs and 186 tuna total. We didn't focus so much on Wahoo but we need get about 20 nice size Wahoo as well.

A worthy mention would be of Rich Rose who is estimated to have 5 tuna himself over 200 lbs with his biggest taping in at 266 lbs.

The wind  had picked up a bit and is blowing at 20 kph with mild choppy seas (not the best traveling weather)  We are planning on cruising slowly up the coast and finding a little spot to hang out in till our arrival date. I will call in the next report on Monday. Have a good weekend everyone, see you soon.
